Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, disapproves of the Calls of the Opposition Representatives to the Mass Protest Actions for the Early Parliamentary Elections
"One should think about the country, not the one´s position in this country", V.Lytvyn stated on Thursday, in the interview to Rada television channel, adding that the right for such actions has not been debated or declined.
According to V.Lytvyn, "those who associate themselves with the opposition intend to gather 50 thousand people, block everything that can be blocked and demand the denunciation of the agreements and announcement of the early parliamentary elections." "I am convinced that this way is wrong. One can lead the people into the streets, but then one should think how to get those people back", V.Lytvyn stated.
The Head of the Parliament reminded of the "efforts that had to be taken after the orange revolution in 2004 and oath-taking of Viktor Yushchenko to make people living in Maidan Square return home". "One should think about the country, not the one´s position in this country", V.Lytvyn stressed.
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine believes that announcement of early elections should be preceded by the national round table discussion and adoption of the resolution on the open-ballot elections.
V.Lytvyn stated that adoption of the law on opposition is not topical: "drafting of the law on opposition equals to setting up a choir circle in the opera house."
The Head of the Parliament explained that Ukraine "has no opposition, because the opposition presupposes a position towards the official authorities", who "failed to promulgate their stand and official program yet, as there is no action plan of the Cabinet of Ministers, and the President failed to deliver an address to the Ukrainian people and The Verkhovna Rada." V.Lytvyn emphasized that the opposition failed to present any proposals to be considered as alternative ones, esp. to the governmental state budget draft.
